Raffles Place Park’s Revamp Could Make the CBD a Weekend Wedding District

For most of its history, Raffles Place has emptied out at weekends. The towers close their lobbies, the food courts go quiet, and the streets belong to a few tourists and cleaners.

That is starting to change. Raffles Place Park, the green space above the MRT station, is being rebuilt as a signature public space with a new event plaza. For couples looking at a wedding in the financial district, it is a shift worth watching.

What Is Changing at Raffles Place

The park was built about 30 years ago and is familiar to every office worker in the area. In 2024, the National Parks Board and the Urban Redevelopment Authority launched a design competition to rebuild it, with the aim of finishing the new park by 2028.

The updated Master Plan 2025, last revised in June 2026, sets out the wider plan. The park will get varied gathering spaces and an event plaza so more community events can be held in the CBD. Nearby, a new urban park will come with the partial pedestrianisation of Market Street.

These sit alongside changes that are already in place. CapitaSpring has brought a public hawker centre and sky terraces to the former Golden Shoe Carpark site, and a through-block link at CIMB Plaza connects Raffles Place to Marina Bay.

The Raffles Place Alliance, a group of property owners set up in 2019, already runs quarterly picnic and movie nights in the park to draw people in after hours and at weekends.

Why Weekends Matter to Couples

A quiet CBD is not all bad for a wedding. Traffic is light, parking is easy to find, and guests arrive without fighting office crowds. The MRT station links directly to several towers, including Republic Plaza.

But an empty district also has a cost. Couples who want outdoor photos between the ceremony and the dinner often find closed forecourts, shuttered shops and not much to look at at street level.

A rebuilt park with a proper plaza changes that picture. It gives couples a public space for photos steps away from the venue, and it gives guests somewhere to wait that is not a lift lobby. If the Alliance’s weekend events grow, it also means the district will feel lived in on a Saturday rather than abandoned.

A Different Kind of Wedding Venue Map

Raffles Place has never been a standard wedding district. It has few hotel ballrooms. What it does have is height: restaurants, bars and private clubs near the top of its towers.

Tower Club, on levels 62 to 64 of Republic Plaza, is one example. The private members’ club takes banquet and wedding bookings in its dining rooms, which look out over Marina Bay, and a wedding at Tower Club singapore suits smaller weddings: current wedding listings put its range at about 15 to 150 guests.

For those couples, the park revamp fills in the missing piece. The venue has always offered the view. What it lacked was a street-level setting that felt like part of the day.

The work will take a few more years. Couples booking for 2027 will still see the district as it is now. But anyone planning a 2028 or 2029 wedding in the CBD may find that a Raffles Place address means something different from what it does today.
